Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Hotel
Airport pickup and transfer to your Hotel in Kigali. Early arrivals can take optional City tour in Kigali including Kimironko market and the Genocide memorials and the surrounding areas, Overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Bukavu- DR Congo
In the morning, you will be picked by our driver Guide from your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Cyangugu boarder on the way to Bukavu in DR Congo. You will have a stop over in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king’s palace in Nyanza, and the Rwanda genocide memorial site. After lunch, continue on a scenic journey to Bukavu with wonderful views of the hills in Rwanda through the tropical forest of Nyungwe National park and a clear view of Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight at Panorama Hotel
Day 3: Lowland Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Biega
In the morning you will continue the 10 days Rwanda Congo Gorilla Trekking Safaris in Virunga and you will go for the memorable adventure of Lowland Gorillas Trekking in Kahuzi Biega National park. Tracking lowland Gorillas is very amazing, lowland Gorillas differ from the mountain gorillas, the lowland gorillas are bigger in size, usually takes 1-4 hours tracking the lowland Gorillas. The lowland Gorillas stay in bigger families as compared to mountain gorillas; you will not regret the safari effort once you meet the amazing Gorillas! Later in the afternoon drive back to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Panorama Hotel
Day 4: Transfer to Goma
In the morning you will take a boat from Bukavu to Goma which takes 6-7 hours. Upon arrival in Goma transfer to your hotel for rest and overnight at the Hotel. In the afternoon Goma city tour and return back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Mikeno Lodge
Arrival at Grande Barriere border crossing by 10:30am and ensure check in with Virunga tourism office by 11:15am. The tourism office is conveniently located in the Grande Barriere border post building, opposite passport control. Tourism staff will provide guests with gorilla and volcano trekking permits at check-in. These permits must be presented before the start of each trek. Once check-in is complete, guests will be transported to Mikeno Lodge at the Park headquarters in Rumangabo. On arrival to Mikeno Lodge, a late lunch will be served and afternoon can be enjoyed at leisure, including exploring Rumangabo’s several nature trails, bird watching or paying a visit to Virunga’s Congo hounds. Day 6: First Mountain Gorilla Trekking.
After an early breakfast at Mikeno Lodge, continue the 10 Days Rwanda Congo Gorilla Trekking Safaris and you will set off for the first Mountain Gorilla Trekking at Bukima Ranger Post. On arrival to Bukima, trekkers will meet the Ranger guides and local porters to receive a briefing before starting the gorilla trek. Treks usually require 3 hours of hiking each way, depending on location of the group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. After spending time with the gorillas, trekkers will return to Bukima camp where a late lunch will be served. Guests will have the rest of the afternoon off to explore Bukima, including bird watching and visiting the Park’s bamboo project. Dinner and overnight at Bukima Tented Camp
Day 7: Second Mountain Gorilla Trekking
At 8:30am, guest will start their second gorilla trek. Upon return, a quick lunch will be served at Bukima and when all gorilla trekkers have returned, guests will be transported back to Mikeno Lodge. On arrival to Mikeno, guests have the afternoon at leisure, free to explore the Park HQ or cosy up with a nice book by the fire. Dinner and overnight at Mikeno Lodge.
Day 8: Visit the Local Community
Today we relax, explore and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Mikeno Lodge, later visit the local community around mikeno, Dinner and overnight at Mikeno Lodge
Day 9: Active Nyiragongo Hiking
After breakfast at Mikeno Lodge, guests will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post, departure point for the Nyiragongo active volcano Hiking. On arrival to Kibati, climbers will receive a briefing and have the opportunity to hire porters. The climb up the volcano takes around four to six hours and trekkers will overnight on the summit.
Day 10: Descend and Back to Kigali
Early in the morning, climbers will leave the crater rim and start the descent back to Kibati. Average descent time is four hours. Once at the bottom, guests will be transported back to Goma and continue to Kigali. Depending on your flight, you will be dropped off at the airport in time for your international flight back home.
